The Local Experience is proud to offer one of Munich’s longest-running beer tours. First launched in 2010 as the legendary Size Matters Beer Tour, this evening adventure is your gateway to Munich’s beer culture—local drinking spots, classic breweries, and stories that reveal the truth (and myths!) behind Bavaria’s most beloved beverage.
DRINK MUNICH LIKE A LOCAL
Your journey begins at 6:45 p.m. at the Euro Youth Hotel (Senefelderstr. 5). Reservations aren’t required but highly recommended. As fellow beer-lovers gather to sign in, you’ll meet your guide(s) and your tour companions for the night. Our meeting time aligns perfectly with the bar’s happy hour—ideal for a cheeky aperitif before diving into Munich’s beer world.
From here, we’ll explore Munich’s beer culture both on and off the beaten path. Over the course of the evening, you’ll visit two beer gardens or halls (depending on weather and availability), each handpicked by our team of locals and professional drinkers. Expect unique atmospheres, authentic Bavarian character, and a hand-selected lineup of beer.
Your ticket includes 1.5 liters of free beer.
BEER, HISTORY & BAVARIAN CULTURE
The Beer & Beyond Beer Tour isn’t just about tasting—it’s about understanding the soul of Munich’s brewing tradition. Our guides share unbelievable, quirky, and occasionally outrageous stories about Bavaria’s relationship with beer. You’ll learn what makes Munich the beer capital of Germany (possibly the world)—past, present, and future.
And of course, no tour would be complete without the tradition of awarding the nightly Best Beer Drinker Trophy. Winning has nothing to do with drinking the most—we’ll explain the secret criteria at the start of the tour. A little mystery keeps things fun. 😉
If you’re hungry, traditional Bavarian food is available for purchase at our first stop.
THE LAST CALL
This experience lasts roughly three hours. Around 10:30 p.m., we award the coveted trophy, snap a group photo, and wrap up near Munich’s main train station. After several hours of beer and good company, navigation can be… challenging—so we’ll make sure everyone gets pointed in the right direction. And if the guide isn’t working early the next day, a nightcap together is absolutely on the table. 🍻
WHY MUNICH IS THE BEST PLACE FOR A BEER TOUR
1. No open-container laws
Drinking beer in public is perfectly legal in Munich. This lets you enjoy the city in the most Bavarian way possible—beer in hand, stories flowing, and sights all around you.
2. Home to some of the oldest breweries in the world
Weihenstephan, Hofbräuhaus, Augustiner… Munich’s brewing heritage runs deep. And since 1810, it has hosted Oktoberfest, the largest folk festival on Earth—famous for, of course, beer.
3. Birthplace of the Reinheitsgebot (Beer Purity Law)
Only four ingredients: water, barley/malt, yeast, and hops. Today the Reinheitsgebot is a symbol of purity, quality, and Bavarian tradition. It’s also the reason Munich’s beer “shouldn’t” give you a hangover—our guides will teach you how to keep that promise. 😉
4. Over 180 beer gardens
Munich is home to three of the largest beer gardens in the world, with the biggest seating up to 10,000 people. In summer, we enjoy these iconic open-air spaces.
In winter, we retreat to warm, wood-lined beer halls and underground cellars—long tables, live music, hearty Bavarian food, and liters of frothy beer served in classic Maß glasses.
