Quick Details
The Local Experience is proud to offer one of the longest running beer tour experiences in Munich. Join us for an evening of beer exploration like no other, made famous as the Size Matters Beer Tour in Munich in 2010! We’ll show you where locals drink beer, drink from the best breweries in Munich, and share fun facts about beer and its fascinating Bavarian history.
A MUNICH BEER TOUR WITH A LOCAL FLARE
Your experience begins at 6:45 p.m. at the Euro Youth Hotel (Senefelderstr. 5). Reservations are not necessary but are encouraged **. As excited fellow tour-goers gather here to register for a night of enjoyable drinks and friend-making, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know the others on the tour and your tour guide(s) for the evening. All in the name of Bavarian beer culture we’ll learn about the liquid gold and all the fun anecdotes surrounding it; you will visit some of Munich’s well-known beer gardens as well as some off-the-beaten-track venues.
Throughout the evening, you will visit two beer gardens or halls (depending on the weather and availability). Each venue is handpicked by our team of local guides and professional drinkers and offers a unique atmosphere, decor, and a variety of beers to tickle your taste buds. Enjoy the company of other beer lovers on the tour and drink 1,5 liters of free beer.
The Size Matters Beer Tour is more than just a tasting experience—it’s a journey through the rich history of Munich’s brewing tradition. Our guides share unbelievable, wacky, and crazy stories and facts about Bavaria’s favorite beverage.
One individual on each tour will be awarded a “trophy” as the best beer drinker of the night. However, being the best beer drinker does not mean the person that drinks the most. Details on how to take your place in long-running tradition of winners will be explained at the beginning of your tour. We want to leave some mystery behind what we have in store for you. 😉
If you would like to upgrade your local experience, traditional Bavarian food will be available for purchase at the first stop of the beer tour.
This experience lasts roughly three hours. At around 10:30 p.m., we will hand out the trophy, conclude our beer-filled odyssey with a group photo and bid farewell near the main train station. Navigating Munich’s streets after enjoying its best beer can be difficult, as our experience has shown. So we make sure to point everyone in the right direction, and if you would like (and if the guide doesn’t have to work in the morning) a nightcap with your guide is not uncommon either. 🙂
What makes Munich the most ideal location for the best Beer Tour in Germany?
Well, first of all, there are no open container laws in Munich, so you can drink beer in public places. This presents a unique opportunity for you to enjoy the city on a guided tour while savoring Bavarian beers. How can you say no to that, right?
Additionally, Munich has a long history of brewing, boasting some of the oldest breweries in the world like Weihenstephan, Hofbräuhaus, and Augustiner. Furthermore, Munich has been the host of the largest folk festival in the world since 1810, and it clearly revolves around beer as well: The Oktoberfest!
Munich is also the birthplace of the “Reinheitsgebot” (Beer Purity Law). The “law” stipulates that beer can only be brewed using four ingredients: water, barley (or malt), yeast, and hops. Over time, the Reinheitsgebot has become a symbol of quality purity, , and tradition in German beer culture. This law allows us to enjoy delicious beer in the city every day, and technically… you shouldn’t get a hangover! Our local guides will help you learn how to avoid them.
With over 180 beer gardens, including the three largest in the world seating up to 10,000 people, Munich offers a plethora of options for locals and tourists to socialize, enjoy beers, food, and fellowship. We will visit one of the most famous on our tour (not the Hofbräuhaus – please visit this on your own time).
Naturally, the best time to visit the beer gardens is in summer. During the colder winter months, we will visit beer halls where you can enjoy Bavarian food in a unique and welcoming atmosphere. You’ll be seated in large, almost Viking-like halls with long tables and/or old underground beer cellars. You will be able to drink from a Maß (a large 1-liter glass of beer), enjoy live music, and participate in traditional Bavarian celebrations.
Join us on the Size Matters Beer Tour for a memorable night of friendship, culture, and plenty of beer! Cheers to new adventures and memorable brews! After the tour, we will provide you with a list of our top 5 favorite beer gardens and pubs in Munich so you can further explore the local beer scene in the city.
